W.Va's Mooseheart Child
Mooseheart/Moosehaven August 28, 2007
In front of the Mooseheart campus there was a huge billboard where they display a welcome to anyone visiting Mooseheart campus. On August 24th, 2007 a young 13 year old boy was admitted to Mooseheart. The first thing he saw when driving up to the campus was the welcome sign with his name in very big letters. Aaron Michael Gerring is from the ChrlesTown area, Inwood, WV. With the help of his grandmother, Sally Jo Wright, Mikey decided to apply for residency at Mooseheart. He was aware that by going to Mooseheart to live he was ensuring a brighter future for himself. He says that when he grows up he wants to be a doctor, a lawyer or maybe a pro football player. He says that out here he knew his chances of college were not very good. Now he can keep up his grades and be assured of a scholarship to a college of his choice and have the kind of life he dreams of.
Aaron Mikey Gerring and his grandmother came to the 2007 State Conference in Huntington. Mikey and his grandmother both were so appreciative of the hospitality shown to them by all of the Moose members from so many of the lodges and chapters. I personally want to thank the co-workers from Charles Town, St. Albans and Nitro for making his birthday a pleasant one. They had a birthday cake and showered him with all of his school clothes, school supplies and yes the radio and cd player with cd’s were the icing on his cake. I also saw several members from several different lodges slip Mikey a $10 or $20. You guys are all great. Thanks!
Mikey is now at Mooseheart, has started school and has played in a few of their football games. His first few nights were rough ones. He missed his grandmother and believe me she misses him too. Sally has had Mikey since he was 2 months old when his family was killed in a car accident. She is the only mother he has ever known. So his first few weeks will be hard ones. He now resides in the Iowa house, sharing his new home with several other young boys his age. I hope you will all remember him and send a card when you have time. I know he would love getting mail from WV. He may not know you but he will always remember the good times in Huntington and how great his Moose family is.
If you know of any family in your area that would like to know about Mooseheart please feel free to give them my name and number.
